What are Carolina Biological Supply Company's key strategic business objectives and challenges for the next three years?
To bring new features to market, incorporate 3rd party workflow automation, merchandising, content suggestions, improve UX and performance.
Do you expect to make significant changes to your Oracle Commerce systems to support those goals and address challenges? What are those changes?
The expectation is to improve the offering and keep it as relevant as possible without significant changes to the system unless warranted to keep pace with the technology and staffing dependencies. As improvements are uncovered, they need to have measurable improvement for users.
Which technologies do you see most influential in your overall Commerce success and specifically to extending your investment in Oracle Commerce?
Headless architecture, OOB integrations, tag management systems, support for JBoss and other enterprise platforms that are integral to eCommerce.
What is your overall strategy/plan around Oracle Commerce? Are you planning to gradually make significant changes to the current solution by leveraging innovation and new technology such as cloud and microservcies, continue managing existing systems with minimum changes, re-platform to SaaS or another on-premise solution?
The plan is to reduce technical debt, increase customers' ease of doing business, and drive toward revenue goals. Also, to pursue these with Oracle Commerce until a more easily- staffed, quicker time to market, and cheaper solution is available with the same level of customization opportunities.
Why did you select that path over alternatives? What benefits do you expect to see (or already saw in case some changes were already implemented)?
The goal is to achieve a stable system where user- facing improvements can be gained with minimized investment and no hidden costs. Making lots of system changes usually requires lots of technical support and unintended consequences.
Each business is different and the approach that works for one might be the wrong one for another company. What do you think are key considerations when selecting the right Oracle Commerce evolution strategy?
How much is the company willing to invest in ongoing development and support? How easily does the company attract and retain technical people?
Are you implementing all initiatives in-house, outsourcing to a partner/multiple partners or a combination of? Which partner selection criteria for implementing your Oracle Commerce strategy are critical in your opinion?
We value stability, transparency, and initiative. In order to get that, we have partnered with a company who will hire our chosen resources as contractors and lets us treat their employees as our own.
Can you share any lessons learned from your Oracle Commerce journey up-to-date? If you could go back 2 years, what would you do differently (if anything) and why?
Carefully analyze cost and benefits of decisions. Include maintenance, training, and expansion support in the cost analysis, and team enablement in the benefits.
